Yoga teachers! Have your 200-hour or 500-hour certification but feel unsure about your knowledge of anatomy and how to help individual students develop a practice tailored to their bodies? Hungry for more knowledge about what muscles are actually working in a pose and how to adjust for individual needs? Looking for a more detailed investigation of how to use specific asanas to build mobility and strength?
Yoga 216 has the anatomy program for you! We are now accepting applications for our second round of a 6-month functional anatomy training for yoga teachers. We will cover in-depth functional yoga anatomy and sequencing for anatomical abnormalities and injuries. You’ll finish our program with a deep well of tools to create challenging and safe practices for students with a broad range of abilities.
Program requirements include weekly participation in:
– studio work, including client interaction, research into injuries and anatomical concerns, light admin and studio cleaning (8-10 hours for work-study (no program fee) or 4-5 hours without work-study (nominal program fee))
– functional anatomy lesson, time TBD
– teacher meeting on weekly asana focus, Tuesdays 12:30-2pm
– personal study of topics covered
– 2 classes per week at 216 with senior teachers
We use Mukunda Stiles’ Structural Yoga Therapy text as a guide, as well as several anatomy books.
The program runs Mar 3-Aug 31, 2014 and is limited to 12 participants. Work-study option makes this a free program. Non work-study program fee is $600 (payable as 6 monthly installments). Save $50 if you pay in full by March 1st.

Testimonials from current participants:
As yoga teachers people trust us with their bodies. They look to us to guide them through their practice safely, and yet my 200 hour training only included a measly two days of basic anatomy (which I instantly forgot). The functional anatomy program at 216, by contrast, has helped me get a real grasp of this stuff and how to apply it in class. The bottom line is, it’s steadfastly worked to obliterated my ‘imposter syndrome’ over the six months, and turned me into an actual yoga teacher. One with knowledge that surpasses most others fresh from their 200 hour trainings as well as some with years of teaching under their belts. -Esme B.
Yoga 216 has opened my yoga teacher eyes to a new knowledge and awareness of the body that will keep students safe. This program helped me learn poses in a new way by breaking them down to the muscles and joint actions. There is such a dynamic depth behind each and every yoga pose and Yoga 216 teaches you this in all of their classes as well as in their anatomy training! This studio is filled with beautifully kind people and quality education! -Lauren C.
