When practiced correctly Bow pose has an expansive energy that’s both energizing and calming at the same time, and it’s this quality that we’ll be playing with through the next week.
Exploring Dynamic Movement in Bow Pose
One of the basic principles of yoga asana (and I’m sure you’ll have heard it mentioned by your teachers in class) is the idea of rooting down in order to rise up, or strengthening and solidifying in order to find lightless. When two opposing forces work in unison the result is surprisingly easeful.
In Bow, the up and away movement of the legs opens up and lengthens the front body. As the pelvis roots down into the ground the heart is able to lift. This moment of stillness and spaciousness is how Bow should feel and it’s what we will be guiding you towards over the next seven days in class.
