The 216 community of yogis is rich and diverse. Each month, we invite a different yogi to share their yoga journey and demo our pose of the month. This month, we checked in with Yuki Okuma, who’s made some truly powerful discoveries in the past year! Namaste, Yuki!
A year ago, February 2015, I was walking towards the highline, looked up, saw the Yoga 216 sign on the wall and, curious, I walked into the studio. Thus, my journey at Yoga 216 began!
I had been studying privately with the talented yoga teacher Francesca Cervero, who moved out of town. I wanted to take classes at a center, but had not found a new place to continue my practice. At Yoga 216, I met Nicole who gave me a tour and set me up for a 30-day trial. I plunged in, trying out different teachers, and always getting individual attention around my specific body needs.
I was hooked!
My journey during the past year has been a bumpy road. I have not always been good at paying attention to my body limitations which has led to injuries and feelings of discouragement. But with the help and guidance of Esther, I have learned not to push my body into pain.
I have learned to be patient, to tune into my breath, and to move. It is all about balancing the body and mind.
I am happy where I am currently in my yoga practice! Namaste!
