We’re checking in with our September yogi of the month, Laura Wagstaff, to learn a little about her experience with the focus of the month, vinyasa transitions. Bravo for bringing your mat work with you into everyday living!
September’s asana focus has been so great to help kick off Fall in NYC. I love this back-to-basics foundational approach to which all other asanas connect.
Slowing down to fully realize the proper movement from a lunge to a downward dog is really fun to dive into. I didn’t appreciate how much your core needs to be engaged to allow this flow to be smooth (and quiet!). It may seem obvious, but sometimes I find myself focusing too much on where I am going next rather than connecting my breath to the middle poses that bring you to the end of a flow.
It has become so clear that each deliberate step we make in our practice is crucial in order to create more space, more strength, and more physical and emotional awareness.
As always, these monthly asanas also bring on deeper teachings off the mat which I value and carry with me throughout the month. This month, I’m remembering to breathe, focus, and find enjoyment. I’m also trying to take on a mindset of being open to trying new movements, which aids me not only on the mat in the asana practice at Yoga 216 but also in life.
