Your Heart Knows You
The heart is a gate-less gate to divinity. Move to the heart. We are all hung up, stuck in the head – that is our problem… There is only one solution – get down from the head to the heart. All your problems will disappear. Problems are created by the head. The heart is innocent. The heart is a fountain of love.
-Vasant Lad, Ayurveda Physician
The root of what we talk about in ayurveda is just this, LOVE. I do not mean to diminish our injuries, our body systems or our imbalances (I discuss these in detail everyday with clients), but believe that love really does heal on a cellular level. LOVE is what connects us, LOVE is what heals us and “the heart is a gate-less gate to divinity.”
One of the easiest ways to escape our overactive minds and build a connection with the heart can be through the breath.
Connect with Your Breath
At the start of every ayurvedic treatment, I ask each client to breathe consciously. You can try it now with just three short steps that take less than a minute.
Read each step through and try it for yourself. Once you are comfortable, put all three steps together taking three breaths for each step. Go ahead! You can do it!
- Close your eyes and breathe into your whole body, all the way down to your fingers and toes.
- Now take a deep breath and imagine creating space around your brain. Let go. Soften your forehead.
- Draw a deep breath into your heart and brighten your chest cavity three-dimensionally, expanding the heart space.
Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.
Think of how many times your bring your hands to your heart in prayer during your yoga practice, this is an excellent opportunity to breathe deep, create a greater connection with your heart and let go of the mind.
It is not always easy to experience the heart’s truth. There can be discomfort, fear, or sensitivities — blockages that begin to arise as we evolve. So, please, be gentle with yourself; allow the process of heart unveiling to be natural and supported (rely on your deep healing breath here).
Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.
If you feel moved, don’t delay in sharing some unconditional love with someone who might really need it (even if that person is YOU). And yes, most definitely, a disarming, genuine, post yoga class smile to a stranger on the streets of NYC counts as major vibrational LOVE.
Wishing you a wonderful spring of re-kindling your heart-breath-expansion-LOVE connection!
Love (and a big smile),
