The 216 community of yogis is rich and diverse. Each month, we invite a different yogi to share their yoga journey and demo our pose of the month. This month, we checked in Christine Ferreira, who let one habit change her life. Namaste, Christine!
How I fell in love with yoga…
Last June I read a book about forming habits. It suggested that if you could do anything for 21 days straight, chances are you could form the habit. I had done yoga on and off for years but cannot say that I actually had a real practice. On July 5th I set out to form this habit that I knew I would benefit from for the rest of my days.
I researched yoga studios in my hood and found one that was conveniently located just 5 blocks away from my home. I was drawn not only by the distance, but the class size and the fact that they offered hot yoga too!
Although I was trying to form a habit and knew all the benefits of yoga, I don’t think I really understood the powerful transformation that I was about to begin.
My knowledge and love for yoga would begin to grow over the next few months. I actually looked forward to when any of the wonderful teachers would correct me in a pose, I felt as though I had learned something new that day that I would carry with me for life. Besides the wonderful physical benefits that I started to see, I believe the best benefit was mindfulness. Mindful in class that I was doing a pose correctly, in my life about how things and people made me feel, and how I made others feel.
I have never felt as strong as I do today. Learning how to breath, move and meditate has made me such a better human. I have found a joy that no one can touch, that will live in me forever! I am at peace with mind and self. Namaste!
