DEEPEN YOUR PRACTICE
LEVEL 1 TEACHER TRAINING
Your Physical Core & the Core of Your Practice
In this first portion of the training, we cover anatomy basics, anatomy + kinesiology of the spine + trunk, common + challenging “core” poses, selections from book two of the Yoga Sutras, introductory breathing practices, our foundational meditation practice, and an introduction to your own home practice.
Ground Your Practice in the Lower Body
We continue on with the anatomy + kinesiology of the hips, knees, and ankles, common + challenging lower body focused shapes, new selections from book two of the Yoga Sutras, intermediate breath practices, a new meditation practice, and home practice targeting the lower body.
Find Foundation in Your Upper Body
We wrap up the physical body exploration with the anatomy + kinesiology of the shoulders, elbows, and wrists, common + challenging upper body focused shapes (including arm balances), selections from book one of the Yoga Sutras, intermediate breath practices, a new meditation practice, and home practice targeting the upper body.
Discover the Subtle Body
Integrated throughout Core Work, Happy Hips, and Learning to Fly are introductions to the subtle body practices of pranayama and meditation. Now we delve in deeper, unpacking the anatomy of the subtle body, Ayurveda for daily wellbeing, restorative yoga for deep rest, a full selection of breath and meditation practices, plus guest lectures in Sanskrit and yoga history that place modern yoga in context for modern yoga.
Use Your Knowledge for Self and Others
Bring it all together with teaching tools that will help you craft your knowledge into sequences that address a particular asana focus, whether for your use or for teaching others. We’ll continue to support you in your home practice of postures, breathing, meditation, and self-reflection.
Putting It All Together for the Next Step
Bring all your knowledge together in a final practicum: teaching a class to your peers! This is an exhilarating and educational experience for everyone, regardless of long-term teaching aspirations. We’ll also set you up with the necessary tools to take your next step into our Teaching Yoga program or wherever this journey takes you!
All teachers in the Teacher Training programs teach at Yoga 216 and have completed a thorough apprenticeship with Nicole and Esther.
Any student of yoga is welcome to register for our Level 1 Teacher Training. The program is meant to deepen the student’s personal practice, while also setting the foundation for those interested in teaching yoga. Students wishing to continue on to the Teaching Yoga: Level 2 Teacher Training must successfully complete Level 1 or our Functional Anatomy for Yoga Teachers program.
Upon successful completion of the Yoga 216 Level 1 Teacher Training (200 hours), you will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200, and continue on to the Yoga 216 Level 2 Teacher Training (300 hours). Upon successful completion of the 300-hour program, you will receive the certification of Yoga 216 Teacher and eligibility for YA RYT 500.
Teacher Training programs are led by co-creators Nicole Katz and Esther Palmer, a dynamic and richly skilled team to lead you on this journey. They are joined by 216 Senior Teachers who’ve completed a thorough apprenticeship. Stellar guest teachers will introduce you to special topics including Ayurveda, Sanskrit, and Yoga History. As with all 216 classes, our Teacher Trainings are limited to 6 students.
