We’re checking in with our June yogi of the month, Valerie Perez, to learn a little about her experience with the pose of the month, Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose). We’re glad you found your way into ease with this pose,Valerie!
Had you practiced this asana prior to this month?
Yes, I have — and found this and the other single standing leg postures difficult!
What was your first impression of the asana? Either this month or when you were first introduced to it.
I love it and I can do it well now… but it took all the other preparation to get me there! As it is, it has some steps and directions that need to be followed in order to make it “easy.”
Did you encounter any reactions (frustration, elation, etc) as a part of working on the asana elements?
I found that activating the strength of my side waist muscles helped. And it showed me the importance of my breathing and core strength.
Did you have any ah-ha! moments in learning and practicing the asana?
Yes, learning to pull up the side waist!
Do you have a grasp on how to practice this asana on your own?
I can do it all on my own now, but its not as much fun as when I am in class. (Aw, we feel you, Valerie!)
Do you practice at home ever?
I will be for the month of July as I’ll be out of town. (We know you can’t take 216 with you yet, but one day!)
