Yoga Inversions 101 for Beginners
Q: Why practice inversions?
A: We actually do inversions in every class – Downward-Facing Dog could be considered an inversion for example. There are lots of health benefits to allowing the hips and legs to be above the heart – it reverses the flow of blood and increases circulation, eases compression on the body, stimulates the lymph nodes and improves immunity, sends blood to the brain and reenergizes, increases core and upper body strength. From a mental point of view inversions encourage us to be humble (it’s all about the journey not the destination), build confidence and of course they’re super fun!
